Tour Details
We'll meet our guide at River City Bangkok for a brief introduction before boarding a riverboat for a 20-minute ride along the Chao Phraya River.
Our first stop is the magnificent Grand Palace, Bangkok's most important monument, and its Wat Phra Kaew, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Built in the late 18th century as a royal residence, the palace's exquisitely designed buildings, temples, gardens, and courtyards are still used for ceremonies and state functions today. You'll be captivated by the architecture of the complex, including the delicately carved scenes decorating the gold-lacquered, multi-tiered roofs of its many Phra Thinang, or "Throne Halls."
Wat Phra Kaew is the most sacred temple in all of Thailand, home to the country's palladium: a figurine of the seated Buddha carved from jade and clothed in gold. Your guide will explain why this 26-inch-tall (66 cm) statue is so deeply revered by the Thai people.
Next, we'll walk to Wat Pho, home to the majestic 46 m long (150 ft) Reclining Buddha and the birthplace of traditional Thai massage. Admire the exquisite murals, intricate mosaics, and serene courtyards as you learn the stories behind this historic site.
From there, we'll cross the Chao Phraya River by ferry to reach Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn. Known for its stunning spires adorned with colorful porcelain, this riverside temple offers breathtaking views over the water.
Finally, we'll make our way to Pak Khlong Talat, Bangkok's largest and most vibrant flower market, where you'll have some free time to browse stalls piled high with orchids, roses, and marigolds and see how these flowers play a central role in Thai ceremonies, offerings, and daily life.
We'll wrap up the tour at the flower market after a total of about 5 hours.
