Curious about pre-Columbian history? In this excursion to the Finca 6 Archaeological Site, we'll visit one of the main enclaves of the Diquís culture in Costa Rica.
We'll meet at 8 am at Sierpe's Pier, where we'll set off by road to the north of the town.
After a short 15-minute drive we'll arrive at the Finca 6 Archaeological Site, where we'll see remnants of the Diquís culture. This pre-Columbian civilization developed in the territory of the current Costa Rican canton of Osa, where impressive remains of their society can be found.
We'll begin a guided tour of the Finca 6 Archaeological Site, declared a World Heritage Site, observing the mysterious stone spheres of the Diquís culture. What was the purpose of these enormous spheres? How were they built? We'll answer these and many other curiosities during the tour.
Our tour of the site continues with a visit to the museum of Finca 6. Here we'll admire four original pieces of great value: a sphere, a statue with a spike base, a sculpture of a feline and a ceremonial grinding stone. We'll discover the functionality of these objects while we learn about other relevant aspects of the Diquís culture.
After visiting the museum, we'll return to the meeting point in Sierpe, where we'll arrive between 10 and 10:30 am.
